Resources to help start home renovation projects
Planning and researching can be challenging, and at times overwhelming. Here are three resources to help you kick start your project.
Connect with an energy coach
If you have questions about energy efficiency upgrade options, products and technologies that are right for your home, or available rebates to make your projects more affordable, pick up the phone or go online to connect with a knowledgeable energy coach for free. You'll be provided with building science-based information about the options and opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of your home.
Perform an EnerGuide home evaluation
An EnerGuide home evaluation provides a customized in-home assessment of your home's energy use and provides access to additional rebates.
For information about an EnerGuide home evaluation, visit CleanBC Better Homes to find EnerGuide home evaluation FAQs.
Performed by an energy advisor licensed by Natural Resources Canada, this evaluation gives you a comprehensive look at your home's energy performance and also establishes an EnerGuide label rating for your home. It also helps you make decisions and prioritize which upgrades will save you on energy costs and make your home more comfortable.
Find a contractor
There are many ways to start your search in finding a contractor – referrals from friends and family, local advertising, and online searches.
Choosing the right contractor can have a great impact on the success of your project. A reliable contractor helps you deliver your project on time and on budget. Don't forget to get multiple quotes.
If available, choose a Program Registered Contractor. They have received training in the best practices of installation of energy efficiency products, such as insulation and heat pumps, and they have knowledge of the rebate programs.
Renovation safety and COVID-19
Contractors are taking extra precautions to ensure the health and safety of both workers and residents of homes amid COVID-19. When choosing a contractor, you can ask about the precautions they’ll be taking.
