Enable power saving settings on your computer to save energy
Did you know that desktop computers are not far behind lighting and heating in their energy use? Enabling power saving settings can help reduce the amount of electricity your computer consumes, especially when it's not in use. On a PC, this feature can typically be found in the Windows Control Panel under System Settings. On a Mac computer use the Apple menu, followed by System Preferences and find the Energy Saver settings.
Among other features, this will allow your computer screen to dim with inactivity, or go to sleep if you've left it idle for a while. The darker screen and sleep setting will use less energy, which will help you save on your electricity bill.
For simple tasks like browsing the internet, streaming content or making a video call, try using a tablet instead. Tablets use up to six times less energy than a desktop computer.
